Day 4 - With My Maker I am One by Eric Bibb

Okay, this one has been bubbling around in my brain, making it hard to move onto other pieces when I couldn't get it quite right. Between that and lots of teaching, I'm a little behind. But this concept is so cool! And needs a little explaining. 

This piece is intended for a small group, 4 dancers(maybe 3?) dancing the choreography as a round. The video shows a choreography combination, that runs for 4 sets of 8. The dancer who starts first completes two full repetitions of the combination. The second dancer starts 8 counts later than the first dancer, but from the start of combination, so they are dancing different parts of the combo at different times. The 3rd dancer starts on the 3rd set of eight and so on. Like so:

1   2   3   4   1   2   3   4
     1   2   3   4   1   2   3
          1   2   3   4   1   2
               1   2   3   4   1

So the piece gets more layers and more complex as the phrase goes on. Then at 0:53, when the choreography changes, all dancers sync back up and do that part together, moving into a tight, circular formation. Maybe sometime during the month I'll gather a few students who want to be guinea pigs for me and see if I can't get you all a better visual :)

Okay so weekends. Weekends are going to be hard for this challenge. I have significant teaching responsibilities every weekend this month, finding time to choreograph in and among travel and rehearsal and workshops is going to be interesting. This past weekend wasn't even work crazy, just aftermaths of New Years and hosting lots of people at my home for the holidays. But now, all the guest are gone and the house is finally quiet again. So here's to catching up and posting two days worth of choreography at once. I promise, very little liquor was spilled in the making of this piece :)

This is a piece I've been thinking about for a while. It is intended to be a single dancer, solo piece, preferably performed by someone who is good at hamming up the drama when they are dancing :) Also, woo! New Years day, was up until 4:30 last night and I still got a minute of choreography done. Starting the new year right!
